GWB Solutions
for the Steel Industry
From raw material handling to semi-finished castings, steel wire, tubes, plates and coils, Dana has a broad experience in a variety of applications related to steel production and provides components for equipment used in the transformation of steel and many other metallurgical processes.
Dana is involved in both Primary and Secondary steelmaking. In the first case our solutions are applied to the equipment needed to convert liquid iron from a blast furnace and steel scrap into steel using the technique known as basic oxygen steelmaking.
This can also be achieved in an electric arc furnace by melting scrap steel or what is called direct reduced iron. In Secondary steelmaking, our solutions are related to the refinement of crude steel, which is done prior to casting into semi-finished products.
GWB Solutions
for Marine Drive systems
Cardan shafts in marine applications are driving propellers in tugboats, vessels, pleasure boats as well as special drives, e.g. reels for cable layers.
GWB series 587, 390, 392 and 393 are engineered and tailor-made for all such applications. Classified material 3.2, survey of weld seams by X-ray are just of few of the processes performed to provide the best quality.
Customer are supported by solutions approved from all international classification authorities. Designs with carbon-fiber center sections are options to reduce the weight and avoid operation in critical bending speed range.
Outcome of engineering solutions are very often unique, which make the difference in easy maintenance, trouble free operation and longevity.
GWB Solutions
for Railway vehicles
Cardan shafts in railway applications are driving diesel hydraulic locomotives, regional trains DMU, high-speed trains and special vehicles servicing the track.
GWB series 687, 688,587 and 390 are engineered and tailor-made for all such applications. Tested material, survey of weld seams by X-ray are just of few of the processes performed to provide the best quality.
To optimize the life cycle cost for the end-user GWB has implemented unique and patented design features as self-centering journal cross design and light weight heavy-duty spline sets. Balancing grade G16 is performed even at 3600 rpm for heavy cardan shafts (> 200 kg).
The latest development of the Tripod shaft for high-speed trains is equipped with hydraulic overload coupling, which can be re-set multiple times
Outcome of engineering solutions are very often unique, which make the difference in easy maintenance, trouble-free operation and longevity.
GWB Solutions
for Paper Industry
Cardan shafts in paper mill applications are driving machines and rolls in all process steps; from de-barking, pulping, drying up to finishing of all kind of papers.
GWB series 687/688, 587, 390, 392 and 393 are engineered and tailor-made to fit the demand of these application. Drivelines are designed and optimized for two categories: bearing lifetime and critical bending speed.
In regards of critical bending speed GWB is evaluating the entire system including the geometry of rolls, motor/gear box shaft and bearing stiffness with specific software tools.
For critical application GWB is offering cardan shafts with carbon fiber tube. There are success stories where we implemented these designs to increase speed of the rolls, replace two shafts with one long shaft and other solution. Outcome of engineering solutions are very often unique, which make the difference in easy maintenance, trouble free operation and longevity.
